The system also mandated consistent 4-degree loft gaps between each iron for optimal distance gapping. In general, it is a combination of loft profiles so golfers can select the launch trajectory that best suits his or her style of play. The PreciseLoft System has two components. When we first launched the Ben Hogan PreciseLoft System in 2015, we thought it would add a layer of precision to golf equipment never before seen. Once we've packed the heads with technology, they are filled with polycarbonate foam to create an incredibly solid feeling iron.īen Hogan Edge irons. The mid and short irons incorporate a progressively thicker face design providing for solid feel on scoring shots. The longer irons with stronger lofts have a very thin, yet strong face for exceptional distance… even on shots struck on the toe or heel. The hollow head construction also allowed us to vary the thickness of the club face. Although expensive and difficult to manufacture, this process allows us to create exceptional perimeter weighting both inside and outside of the club head. The face is forged first using a hydraulic hammer, then its laser-welded to the back frame and hosel that is forged separately. So, the Ben Hogan Edge is constructed using two separate forged parts. Perimeter weighting technology has been nearly impossible to incorporate into a single-piece forged iron. However, perimeter weighted, cavity back investment cast clubs sacrifice the elusive quality of feel. Positioning weight around the edges of the head creates more stability and, in turn, more forgiveness.
If not, I will take a full set with no preference on shafts, as I plan to have all clubs reshafted, once the combo set has been pieced together and refinished.Perimeter weighting has long been proven to be a viable club technology. I am looking primarily for 3-6 iron, and would take heads alone if you prefer to retain the shafts to resale. If you fine people could help me find a set that is reasonably priced and in reasonably good shape, I'd be greatly appreciative. It will be square/straight across the top, where the cavity starts, rather than round like in the 2002s. The 2006 model shares a similarly styled head as the 2002, but with the distinct difference being the muscle shape.
So, that leaves me with looking for a 2006 set that I've only read good things about. So, it's a total chance of whether or not you get a 2001 set that is good quality or a post 2002 set that is of lesser quality in the feel department. I've been able to find plenty of the 2002 model as individual irons and sets on eBay, but I read that in mid 2002 production was moved from Endo Japan to China and that materials and production techniques changed to benefit expenses. I've looked at a few of the more recent sets of Hogan CBs and I absolutely have fallen in love with the looks and reviews of the Apex Edge (pocket cavity) clubs. but, since I'm moving to these from a set of Callaway X-Forged (2007) I'm finding it a bit hard to hit the long irons. I recently chanced across a set of 1999 Apex blades in the bargain bin at my local 2nd hand sporting goods store, and boy are they sweet.
